Garage 56 wins Niche Vehicle Network Feasibility Study funding

Garage 56 has won funding to investigate the feasibility and engineering concepts that would allow an ice cream van to run with zero emissions at point of sale.
Ice cream vans currently use the van’s engine, or a generator with little if any emissions controls, running only a few feet from where customers are queuing. Our work is to see what can be done to create a clean, quieter alternative to these engines, looking not only at the energy supply, but also the energy demands and efficiencies of all the systems on board a typical van.
A battery pack is not a feasible solution if it’s too expensive: it’s quite a technical challenge, but we’re used to that!
